West Nile Virus – Be Aware

If you have elderly parents or are over 50, pay attention. No Mosquitoes

This is not my normal type of post. We get bombarded by so many conspiracy theories and so much bad news that many of us just tune it out.

According to the CDC, the chance that any one person is going to become ill from a single mosquito bite remains low.

However, the risk of severe illness and death is highest for people over 50 years old.

If you haven’t heard, there has been a major outbreak of the West Nile Virus.  So just take a few minutes to check around your house and those of your elderly loved ones.

The object is to avoid mosquito bites!

  • TAKE EXTRA CARE FROM DUSK TO DAWN, THE PEAK MOSQUITO BITING TIME.
  • USE INSECT REPELLANT AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHING IF YOU MUST BE OUTSIDE
  • DRAIN STANDING WATER
  • INSTALL OR REPLACE SCREENS
  • REPORT DEAD BIRDS TO LOCAL AUTHORITIES

This is just a “heads up” to be aware.  If you need more information, just enter “West Nile Virus” in the GOOGLE search box and you will find more than you ever wanted to know. 🙂
